In the assembly the revered Bhava plucked out the beard of Bhrgu, who stood there ladle in hand at the offering, and who had once laughed and shown that beard. The revered one threw Bhaga to the ground in anger and tore out his eyes: the one who from his seat in the assembly had egged on with a glance the man who was cursing. He knocked out Pusan's teeth, as Bala knocked out the Kalinga king's; for Pusan had laughed and shown those teeth while the honoured one was being cursed. He set his foot on Daksa's chest and cut at him with a sharp-edged weapon; yet the three-eyed one could not get the head off. When the skin was not broken even by weapons that carried their spells, Hara was greatly astonished, and the lord of the herds thought about it a long while.

Seeing the way in which beasts are quieted at a sacrifice, that lord used it, and took the head from the body of Ka, the beast that was here the sacrificer. Then there was a shout of well done from those who praised that deed of his, from the spirits and the ghosts and the ghouls; for the others it was the other way about. In his anger he offered that head into the southern fire there; and having burned down the ground where the gods were worshipped, he set out for the dwelling of the guhyakas.
