So resolved, the sages churned hard at the thigh of the dead lord of the earth, and out of it came a man, Bahuka. He was black as a crow, very short in the body, short in the arms, with a great jaw, short legs, a flattened nose, red eyes and coppery hair. He bowed and stood there wretched, saying, What shall I do? Sit down, they told him, dear one; and from that he became Nisada. His descendants are the Naisadas, who keep to the hills and the forests; for in being born he carried off the thick stain of Vena.
