1Having praised Prthu so, whose lip was quivering with anger, the earth in her fear steadied herself by herself and spoke again: 2Master, hold your anger in and take in what I tell you. A wise man draws the essence out of everything, as the bee does. 3For this world or the next, the sages who see what is real have found the ways and have used them, so that men may come to what is good. 4One who rightly takes up the means that were shown before, even a lesser man, if he has trust, comes readily to the ends they lead to. 5But a man without knowledge who slights them and sets out on his own after what he wants finds that it miscarries, again and again, however often he begins.
