14A king's good lies in guarding his people; in the world to come he takes a sixth part of what they have done well. Otherwise, taking their taxes and not guarding them, he loses his own merit and eats their wrongdoing. 15Keeping dharma first, as the best of the twice-born approve and usage has it, guarding this earth as no other does, in a short time, with the people loving you, you will see the perfected ones come to your house. 16And choose some boon of me, lord of men. I am bound by your qualities and your conduct. I am not easily got by sacrifices or austerities or yoga, since I go with those whose minds are even.
17So instructed by Visvaksena, the teacher of the world, that conqueror of everything took Hari's command upon his head. 18Indra touched his feet with love, ashamed of what he had done; and Prthu embraced him and let his hatred go.
