Near the sea they saw a very great lake, wide, clear as the mind of a great man, its water still and settled. It was a mine of lilies blue and red, of lotuses, of white water-flowers and of the blue lotus, and loud with swans and cranes and ruddy geese and ducks. Its creepers and trees had their hairs standing up at the sweet sound of the drunken bees, and the wind made a festival of it, scattering the pollen of lotus-cups through the quarters. Hearing there a music of the gandharvas, lovely and in the manner of heaven, with drums and tabors following it, those sons of the king wondered. Just then the best of the immortals was coming out of that lake with his followers, and the servants of the gods were singing to him.

Seeing him bright as a mass of molten gold, his throat dark, three-eyed, his face gracious with favour, they bowed, and wonder rose in them.
