So Puranjana begged, hero, like a man with no steadiness in him, and the woman, taken with the hero, laughed and welcomed him. Bull among men, we do not rightly know who made us, nor the family and the name of ourselves or of any other, nor by whom they were made. We know only the self that is here today and nothing beyond that, nor who it was, hero, who made this city as a shelter for the self. These men and these women are my friends, you who give honour to others; and this snake stays awake while I sleep, guarding the city. It is good fortune that you have come, and may it go well with you. You want the pleasures of the village, and I will bring them to you with my kinsfolk, tamer of enemies.

Mighty one, take up your place in this city with nine mouths, and take for a hundred years the pleasures of desire that I bring you.
