24The serpent, shut in, left the city and came out after him; and when he went the city fell apart behind him and went back to what it was made of. 25Dragged off by force by the yavana, who was the stronger, and entered by darkness, he did not find the friend, the well-wisher who had been with him from the first. 26The animals of sacrifice, whom he had put to death without pity, remembering that cruelty of his, cut him with axes in their anger. 27Sunk in a darkness that has no far shore, his memory gone, fouled by his clinging to a woman, he went through pain for endless years. 28Holding to her still in his mind, he became after that a woman of the finest kind, in the house of Vidarbha, that lion among kings.
29Malayadhvaja the Pandya, taker of enemy cities, beat the kshatriyas in battle and married her, the daughter of Vidarbha, who was the prize of that valour.
