You are not the daughter of Vidarbha; this hero is not your well-wisher; and you were not the husband of Puranjani, who shut you into the nine-gated place. This is maya, and I made it: that you take yourself now for a man, now for a woman, when in truth you are neither. We two are swans; look at what we really are. I am you, and you are no other; you yourself are I. Look at it, sir. The wise never see the least crack between the two of us. As a man may see his one self made two, in a mirror and in another's eye, just so is the difference between us. So the swan of the Manasa water, wakened by the swan, stood again in himself, and got back the memory he had lost by that straying.

Barhismat, this matter of the self has been shown to you by way of the hidden, since the god who brings the world into being, the Bhagavan, is fond of what is hidden.
