You and I, good friend, are two swans, companions whose home is the Manasa water; and for a thousand years we have been away from that home. You, my friend, left me and went to the earth with a village mind, and wandering there you saw a place that some woman had built, with five gardens, nine gates, one keeper, three rooms, six households, five markets, five constituents, and a woman for its lord. The gardens are the five things the senses want; the gates, my lord, are the nine ways of the breath; the rooms are fire, water and food; the household is the gathering of the senses. The market is the power to act; the constituents are the unfailing nature of the elements. The Person, who is lord of that power, has entered here and does not come to himself.

There, touched by that woman and taking your pleasure with her, you lost the memory of all you had heard; and by her company you came, my lord, to a state as bad as this.
