1Brahmin, those sons of Pracinabarhi you spoke of: what attainment did they reach, pleasing Hari with the song of Rudra? 2Son of Brhaspati, what did the Pracetas gain here or beyond, when by chance they came upon the god of the mountain, who keeps to the dear side of the lord of aloneness? Surely they reached the highest. 3The Pracetas, carrying out their father's command, pleased Puranjana in the middle of the sea with austerity and with the sacrifice that is muttered prayer. 4At the end of ten thousand years the everlasting Person showed himself to them, quieting their hardship with his calm light. 5He rode on the shoulder of the fair-winged one, like a raincloud on Meru's peak, dressed in yellow, a jewel at his throat, and left the quarters without darkness.
6His cheeks and his face shone with ornaments of the colour of gold that shone in their turn, and his crown glittered. His eight weapons and his attendants waited on him, and the sages and the chiefs of the gods, while Garuda and the kinnaras sang his fame.
