A daughter with lotus eyes was born to Kandu of Pramloca. She was cast away, and the trees took her up, sons of the king. As she lay crying, wasted with hunger, King Soma, moved with pity, put into her mouth a forefinger that rained nectar. Your father, who follows me, has ordered you to the begetting of people. Marry that girl of the fine hips there, and do not delay. All of you keep a duty that is not divided; and let this fine-waisted one keep a duty that is not divided too, her heart given over to you as a wife. For a thousand thousand of the years of the gods, and with great strength, you will enjoy the good things of earth, and by my favour those of heaven as well.

Then, your hearts ripened by an unfailing devotion to me, you will be weary of this hell and will come to my own dwelling. And for men who are given to their houses, but whose works are skilful and whose hours go by in talk of me, houses are not held to be a bondage. That which is ever new in the heart, the knower: this is Brahman, say those who speak of Brahman. Having gone to it, they are not bewildered, they do not grieve, they do not exult.
