How could we set out your form?· Verses 4–9

4The priests said: Most worthy of worship, you deserve again and again the worship of us who walk behind you. Salutation and salutation: this much is what the good have taught us. For what man, his mind a tangle of nature's strands and himself without power, could set out the form of the Lord who is beyond, using names and shapes and figures that come later than nature and the Person, 5except by telling one small part of that host of your highest qualities, most auspicious of all, which throws off the sin of every gathering of people? 6Highest one, they say you are well pleased even by a worship that your own people put together out of love: some calling aloud together, water, white shoots, tulasi and blades of durva grass.
7So in this sacrifice of ours either, weighed down as it is with its great load, we can find nothing here that would be of any proper use to you. 8For you are yourself, plainly and with nothing outside you, all that a man could want, and it grows again at every pressing. But, Lord, for us who keep asking for gifts, this can be nothing more than a way of pleasing you. 9Highest one, highest Person: out of the height of your compassion for children who do not know for themselves what is best for the self, and meaning to make ready for them your own greatness, which is called release, you have let yourself be seen here like anyone else, though you were not properly honoured.
