Verse 20
There is no one like me but myself· Verses 16–20
16Praised so in plain speech, the Bhagavan, bull among those who do not blink, his feet saluted and honoured by the holder of the land, spoke with kindness. 17Bhagavan said: Ah, sages, whose words never fail, you have asked me for a boon that is not easily got: that a son like me should be born to this man. There is no one who looks like me but myself, since I am alone. And yet the word of a brahmin must not prove false, for the family of the twice-born gods is my own mouth. 18So, finding no one equal to myself, I will come down by a part of a portion in the house of Agnidhra's son. 19Having said this to Merudevi's husband while she listened, the Bhagavan went out of sight.
20Visnudatta, at that very sacrifice the Bhagavan, won over by the highest sages, wishing to do what would please Nabhi, and wanting to show the duties of the wind-clad wandering sages who hold the seed upward, came down in a white body in Merudevi within his household.
