The rivers that run out of fruit and honey· Verses 17–25
17As those fruits burst, their juice, very sweet and fragrant, red and plentiful, becomes a river named Arunoda; it falls from the peak of Mandara and floods Ilavrta on the east. 18The wives of the holy folk who attend Bhavani drink of it, and the wind that has touched their limbs carries the scent ten yojanas all around. 19So too the rose-apple fruits, almost without stone and as big as an elephant's body, burst with the height of their fall, and out of their juice comes a river named Jambu. It falls from the peak of Merumandara ten thousand yojanas to the floor of the earth and runs south over the whole of Ilavrta. 20And the clay of both its banks, soaked through with that juice and cooked by the joining of wind and sun, becomes the gold called Jambunada, the ornament of the world of the deathless ones for ever.
21That is what the gods and the rest wear, they and their young women, in the shape of crowns and bracelets and girdles and other ornaments. 22The great kadamba grown on Suparsva has five streams of honey coming out of its hollows, five measures round, and falling from the peak of Suparsva they gladden Ilavrta on the west. 23The wind that comes from the mouths of those who drink it carries the scent a hundred yojanas all around. 24So too, on Kumuda, there is the banyan called Satavalsa. Down from its trunks run rivers of milk, curd, honey, ghee, molasses, food and the rest, and clothes and beds and seats and ornaments, every one of them giving whatever is wished for; falling from the top of Kumuda, they serve Ilavrta on the north.
25The people who take them never know wrinkles, grey hair, weariness, sweat, foul smell, old age, sickness, death, cold, heat, loss of colour or any other affliction; as long as they live their happiness has nothing above it.
