The mountains around the foot, and the cities on the head· Verses 26–29

।

Kuranga, Kurara, Kusumbha, Vaikanka, Trikuta, Sisira, Patanga, Rucaka, Nisadha, Sinivasa, Kapila, Sankha, Vaidurya, Jarudhi, Hamsa, Rsabha, Naga, Kalanjara, Narada and the rest, twenty mountains, are set all around the base of Meru like the filaments about the seed-cup of a lotus. East of Meru, Jathara and Devakuta run north eighteen thousand yojanas and are two thousand broad and high; so, to the west, Pavana and Pariyatra; to the south, Kailasa and Karavira, running east; and to the north, Trisrnga and Makara. Ringed by these eight, the golden mountain blazes all around like fire. On the head of Meru, they say, a city was laid out in the middle for the revered one who is his own birth, ten thousand thousand yojanas square and made of gold.

Round about it eight cities are laid out for the eight guardians of the worlds, each in its own quarter and its own form, and each a quarter of that one in measure.
