The post the lights are tied to· Verses 1–3

Then, thirteen hundred thousand yojanas beyond that, is what they call the highest place of Visnu. There Dhruva, son of Uttanapada, great among the Lord's own, is kept at their right with much honour by Fire, Indra, the lord of creatures, Kasyapa and Dharma, who move around with him at the same time; and even now he stands there, the living-ground of those whose life lasts out an age. His power has already been told here. For he was set there by the Lord as a post is set, the hold that does not move for all the gathered lights, the wandering ones and the star-houses and the rest, which are turned about by the Bhagavan time, who does not blink and whose speed cannot be seen; and he shines without a break.

As beasts yoked to a threshing post walk their circles, each in its own place, in three rounds and three rounds, so the hosts of stars, the wandering lights and the rest, are yoked to this wheel of time on the inner track and the outer, and holding to Dhruva, driven along by the wind, they walk their rounds to the end of the age. As clouds and hawks and the like turn about in the sky at the wind's will, with their works for a driver, so the gathered lights, held by the joining of nature and the Person, go the ways their works have made and do not fall to the earth.
