7Greatly favoured ones, you should do no harm to the trees, which are helpless. You are held to be lords of creatures, whose business is to make them grow. 8Ah, the Bhagavan Hari, unspent, lord of the lords of creatures, the all-pervading, brought forth the trees and the herbs as food and as strength. 9What does not move is food for what moves; what has no feet, for what goes on feet; what has no hands, for what has hands; and four-footed things for the two-footed. 10And you were told by your father and by the god of gods, sinless ones, to bring creatures forth. How then is it fit for you to burn the trees down? 11Stand on the road of the good; hold in this anger you have lit. It is a road your father kept to, and his father, and their fathers before them.
12Father and mother are kin to children, the eyelash to the eye, the husband to the woman, the king to his people, the householder to those who beg; the wise man is a friend to those who do not know. 13Within the bodies of beings the self is present, Hari, the Lord. Look on all of it as his seat, and he is pleased with you so.
