First the lord of creatures brought forth these creatures by mind alone: gods, antigods, men and the rest, who live in the sky, on land and in water. Seeing that his sending out of creatures had not grown, the lord of creatures went to the foot of the Vindhya and did an austerity hard to do. There is a ford there named Aghamarsana, the highest, a carrier-off of sin. Touching its water at each of the set times, he pleased Hari with austerity. He praised the Bhagavan beyond the reach of the senses with the Hamsa-guhya. I shall say it to you, and how Hari was pleased with him.
