These are the wives of Kasyapa, of whom this world was born: Aditi, Diti, Danu, Kastha, Arista, Surasa, Ila, Muni, Krodhavasa, Tamra, Surabhi, Sarama, Timi. Of Timi came the hosts of water creatures, and Sarama's sons were the beasts of prey. Of Surabhi came buffaloes and cattle and the other cloven-hoofed animals, king; of Tamra the hawks and vultures and their kind; of Muni the companies of nymphs. The biting snakes and the rest are the children of Krodhavasa, king. All the trees are Ila's, and the night-walkers are Surasa's. Of Arista came the gandharvas, and of Kastha the animals that are not cloven-hoofed. Danu's sons were sixty-one. Hear the chief among them.
