Svadha, the wife of Angiras the lord of creatures, took the fathers for her sons; and Sati took the Atharvangirasa Veda for a son. Krsasva begot Dhumaketu on his wife Arcis, and on Dhisana he begot Vedasiras, Devala, Vayuna and Manu. Tarksya's wives were Vinata, Kadru, Patangi and Yamini. Patangi bore the birds, and Yamini the locusts. Suparna bore Garuda, who is himself the carrier of the lord of sacrifice, and Anuru the sun's charioteer; and Kadru bore the serpents past counting. The moon's wives, Bharata, were the lunar houses beginning with Krttika. By Daksa's curse he had no child by them, and wasted under the grip of a wasting illness.

Winning him over again, Soma got back the portions of himself that had been cut away in the waning. Now hear the names of the mothers of the worlds, names that bring peace.
