The king was delighted. He bathed and made himself clean and put on his ornaments, had the brahmins speak the blessings, and had the birth rite done for the boy. To them he gave gold and silver, clothing and ornaments, villages, horses and elephants, and six hundred million milk cows. Great-hearted, he rained down on everyone else whatever they wanted, as a rain cloud rains on living things, so that the boy might have good fortune, good name and long life. In the son the royal sage had come by with such difficulty the father's love grew day after day, as a poor man's love grows for money got with difficulty. The mother's love for her son was greater still, and it came out of a bewilderment. In Krtadyuti's fellow wives there was a fever of wanting a child.

Citraketu's great fondness for the wife who had borne him a child did not come up in the same way for the others, as he petted the boy day after day.
