1The Bhagavan himself is even-handed toward living beings, brahmin, dear to them and their friend. How then did he kill the Daityas for Indra's sake, like a man who takes sides? 2He has no business with the hosts of gods, being himself the highest good outright; nor has he any hatred of the antigods, nor any alarm, since he is beyond the strands. 3So, greatly favoured one, a very great doubt has come up in us about what Narayana is like, and you ought to cut it away. 4Well asked, great king. The doings of Hari are a wonder; and the greatness of the Lord's own makes devotion to the Bhagavan grow. 5It is the highest and holiest thing, sung by the sages, Narada and the rest. Bowing to Krsna the sage, I shall tell the story of Hari.
