12It is plain that you want to die, since you boast beyond all measure. Dull creature, are not the words of men who are about to die always wild? 13This lord of the world you have spoken of, ill-fated boy, this other than me: where is he? If he is everywhere, why is he not seen in this pillar? 14So I take your head from your body while you are boasting. Let Hari save you now, the refuge you have wanted. 15Tormenting his son, who was great among the Lord's own, again and again with foul words in his rage, the great demon took up his sword, sprang from his high seat, and in his huge strength struck the pillar with his fist.
16At that very moment there came out of it a sound so terrible that the shell of the egg split open. The unborn one and the rest heard it reach their own seats, and thought, dear one, that their houses were ending. 17Striding out to kill his son by force, he heard that roar, unheard of before and astonishing, and nowhere in the hall could he see where it stood; and the leaders of the enemies of the gods shook at it.
