1So not one of the gods and the rest, with Brahma and Rudra in front, could come near that towering rage, which could not be approached at all. 2Sri herself was sent by the gods; but seeing that great and astonishing thing, never seen or heard of before, she was afraid and did not go near. 3Brahma sent Prahlada, who was standing close by: Dear one, go up to him and quiet the master, who is angry with your father. 4So be it, he said; and slowly, king, the little boy who was great among the Lord's own went up, laid his whole body on the ground and bowed, his palms held together. 5Seeing the small child fallen at the root of his feet, the god was flooded with pity. He lifted him and laid on his head the lotus of his hand, which takes fear from those terrified by the snake of time.
6That hand's touch shook out all his ill, and the sight of the supreme Self broke open in him at once. Quieted, he held those lotus feet in his heart. His body bristled, his heart melted, his eyes filled. 7With his mind on one thing and wholly steady, his heart and his eyes laid down on him, he praised Hari in a voice that stammered with love.
