8Brahma and the ranks of the gods, the sages and the perfected ones, whose minds are tuned to clarity alone, have not been able even now to worship him with streams of words about his many qualities. Am I, of a fierce breed, fit to please Hari? 9I hold that wealth, high birth, beauty, austerity, learning, vigour, blaze, sway, strength, manhood, understanding and yoga do not serve to worship the supreme Person. The Bhagavan was pleased by the devotion of a lord of elephants. 10Higher than a brahmin with the twelve good qualities who has turned from the lotus feet of the lotus-navelled one, I hold the man who cooks dogs, if he has laid on him mind, words, acts, goods and breath. He makes his whole line clean; the proud one does not.
11This master is full with what is his own, and being full of pity he does not choose honour from an ignorant man for himself. Whatever honour a man does the Bhagavan comes back to that man, as a face's beauty comes back from the glass. 12So, with my nervousness gone, I will tell the greatness of the Lord with my whole self, as far as my wits reach. I am low, brought by maya into the outpouring of the strands; and yet the telling of it makes a man clean.
