By sweeping and smearing, by adorning the house and putting it in order; herself always adorned, and her things kept clean; a good wife, with the things he wants, large and small, with modesty and self-restraint, with words true and pleasant, with love, should attend on her husband at every hour. Content, not greedy, capable, knowing dharma, speaking pleasantly and truly, not careless, clean, tender: she should attend on a husband who has not fallen. A woman who attends on her husband as though he were Hari, given to him as Sri is, is glad in Hari's world with a husband whose self is Hari's, as Sri is. The living of the mixed births is whatever each of their families has made, for those who are not thieves and not wicked, from the last-born to those who live at the edge.
