24Having taken the fires up into himself, and given up holding anything to be I or mine, he should set down this gathered body, rightly and each part as is fit, into the causes it came from. 25Master of himself, he sets its openings in space, its breathing in wind, its heat in fire, its blood and phlegm and pus in water, and what is left in earth, each as it arose. 26Speech with what it has to say he sets in fire, the two hands with their craft in Indra, the feet with their walking in vigour, the organ of pleasure in the lord of creatures, 27the vent with its voiding in Death, assigning each to its own place; the ear together with sound in the quarters of the sky, and the skin together with touch in what belongs to the self within.
28Forms along with the eye, king, he should settle in light; the tongue together with the clear-minded one in the waters; and the nose with the things it smells in earth. 29The mind with its wishes in the moon, the intellect with what it knows in the higher seer, actions with the inner doer in Rudra, who makes the I and the mine; thought with clarity in the knower of the field, and what change has made, with the strands, in the Highest. 30Earth he lays in water, water in fire, that in wind, that in space, and space in what stands unmoved; that in the great, that in the unmanifest, and that in the imperishable. 31Knowing in this way that the self is left over as the imperishable, awareness and nothing else, and that there is no second, he comes to rest, like a fire whose wood has burned away.
