1One who is able, having gone out in this way with nothing left him but his body, should wander the earth wanting nothing, keeping the rule of one night in a village. 2If he wears clothing at all, let it be no more than a covering for his loins. Apart from the staff and the other marks, he takes back nothing he has given up, unless he is hard pressed. 3The beggar should go alone, taking his pleasure in the self, leaning on nothing, a friend to every being, at peace, with Narayana for his one aim. 4He should see this whole world within the self, which is highest, beyond what is and what is not, and never wears away; and see the self, the highest Brahman, everywhere in all that is and is not.
5Seeing the self, and where the self goes at the joining of sleep and waking, he sees that being bound and being released are maya and nothing more, and not real things. 6He should not welcome death, which is certain, nor this life of his, which is not. He waits upon time, the highest, out of which beings rise and into which they go.
