10Even a householder should pursue dharma, wealth and desire without too much struggle, according to the place, according to the time, and only so far as fate has provided. 11He should share out what is good with all, down to the dog and the outcaste and the fallen, as is fitting; and even with his one wife, since it is from her that men take their grip on ownership. 12For a woman's sake a man will give up his own life, or kill his father or his teacher. In her he should give up ownership, for whoever gives that up has conquered the Unconquered. 13This poor carcass ends in worms or dung or ashes. What is it, and what is the wife who takes her pleasure in it, and what is this self whose covering is the sky?
14Out of what is left over from the sacrifice, once it is ready, he should make his own living. Giving up ownership in the remainder, a wise man goes the way of the great.
