Bali, Virocana's son, was the commander of the demons' army in that fight. He had a car named Vaihayasa, made by Maya, that went wherever he wished, fitted with everything a war could ask and full of every wonder, master; past reasoning, past describing, seen at one moment and not to be seen at the next. Seated in that finest of cars, ringed by the leaders of all his companies, with his fine whisks and his splendid parasol, he shone like the moon rising. All about him in their cars were the demon lords of the troops: Namuci, Sambara, Bana, Vipracitti, Ayomukha, Dvimurdha, Kalanabha, then Praheti, Heti, Ilvala, Sakuni, Bhutasantapa, Vajradamstra, Virocana,

Hayagriva, Sankusiras, Kapila, Meghadundubhi, Taraka, Cakradrk, Sumbha, Nisumbha, Jambha, Utkala, Arista and Aristanemi, and Maya lord of the three cities, and others, the Pauloma and Kaleya folk, the Nivatakavacas and the rest. They had got no share of the soma and only a share of the trouble. All of these had beaten the deathless ones many a time at the head of battle.
