Loosing their lion-roars, they blew their loud-voiced conches. Seeing his rivals so swollen with it, the splitter of Bala grew very angry. Mounted on Airavata, the elephant of the quarter, the self-ruling one shone as the lord of day shines upon the mountain of sunrise with its running streams. All about him were the gods with their various mounts and flags and weapons, and the guardians of the worlds with their companies, Vayu and Agni and Varuna and the rest. They ran at one another, taunting each other where it stung, calling each other out and going forward, and fought pair against pair.
