Around him were the captains of the Daitya companies, his own men, matched with him in lordship and strength and splendour, who seemed with their eyes to drink up the sky and to burn the horizons. Ringed about by them, dragging that great banner-bearing host of the demons after him, the mighty one went towards Indra's rich city, and heaven and earth seemed to shake. It was lovely with its groves and gardens, Nandana and the splendid rest of them, where pairs of birds call to one another and drunken bees sing. There are the trees of the deathless ones, their branches heavy with shoots and fruit and flowers, and lotus pools crowded with swans and cranes and ruddy geese and ducks, where women whom the gods wait upon come to play.
