Verse 16

¹⁶Now for the most part, goddess, these leaders of the demon companies are not to be got past. That is what I hold. For they are guarded by brahmins who favour them, and by the Lord, and valour gives no comfort there. ¹⁷Yet a way has to be thought out by me, goddess, whom your keeping of the vow has contented. The worship of me must not go any other way: it answers to the trust behind it, because it is what brings the fruit. ¹⁸And I, worshipped by you for the guarding of your children and praised as was fitting by the milk vow, will come to be your son by a portion of myself, and will guard your sons, taking my place in the austerity of Marici's son.

¹⁹Wait upon your husband, good woman, the lord of creatures, who is without stain; and hold me in mind, standing in your husband in this form. ²⁰This is not to be told to anyone else, on any account, even if you are asked. Everything comes about, goddess, when a god's secret is well kept.
