Seeing his own men struck down by the followers of the Person, Bali held back those who were beside themselves with rage, remembering the curse of Kavya. Vipracitti, Rahu, Nemi, hear what I say. Do not fight. Turn back. This time of ours is not working for our gain. He who is master over all living things, for the coming of their joy and their pain -- past him, Daityas, no man is able to go by any strength of his own. He who was before this for our thriving and for the undoing of the sky-dwellers, that same Bhagavan works today the other way about. By strength, by counsellors, by cleverness, by strongholds, by spells and herbs and the rest, by the means that begin with soft speech, no one gets past time.

These followers of Hari you beat many times over. Today the same ones, grown strong by what is fated, have won the fight and are roaring over us. We shall beat these when what is fated turns kind to us. So wait for the time that comes out to our gain.
