Why us, of all stocks· Verses 5–8

5Seeing his grandson Bali, who carried on the line, favoured and set free, Prahlada, whose whole leaning was devotion, said this. 6Virinci does not get this favour, nor Sri, nor Sarva, much less any others: that you, whose feet are bowed to by those the whole world bows to, are the keeper of the stronghold of us demons. 7Giver of refuge, by taking the honey of your lotus feet Brahma and the rest come into their greatnesses. Why then are we, crooked in our ways and born of a mean stock, led into the path of your kindly look? 8Strange is the way you go about it: the worlds let out of you in play by a yogamaya beyond measuring, and you skilled in all of it. You are the self of all and your look is even, and there is no unevenness in your nature; yet you hold dear those devoted to you, being by nature the tree that gives what is wished for.
