39Having instructed the king in this way, Hari went out of sight; and he waited for the time that the lord of the senses had named. 40Having spread darbha grass with its tips to the east, the royal sage sat facing to the north-east, holding in his mind the feet of Hari in his fish's shape. 41Then the sea was seen swelling past its shore, flooding the earth on every side, growing with the great clouds that were raining. 42Holding in mind what the Bhagavan had told him, he saw the boat come; and taking the plants and the creepers he went aboard with the chief brahmins. 43The sages, pleased, said to him: King, hold Kesava in your mind. He will save us out of this strait and set it well.
44Then, held so in the king's mind, he showed himself on the great sea: a fish bearing a single horn, golden, a hundred thousand leagues long. 45Having tied the boat to that horn, as Hari had told him before, with the serpent for a rope, he was glad and praised the slayer of Madhu.
