41From him came Dasaratha, from Dasaratha a son, Aidavidi, and then king Visvasaha, whose son Khatvanga turned the wheel of empire. 42Asked by the gods, hard to beat as he was, he killed the Daityas in battle. Then, learning that his life had one moment left in it, he came back to his own city and gathered his mind. 43My own breath is not dearer to me than the line of brahmins, nor my sons than the gods of my house, nor wealth, nor the earth, nor kingship, nor my wives. 44Not even in boyhood did my mind take pleasure anywhere in wrongdoing. I never saw anything anywhere that was real apart from him whose renown is highest.
45The gods, lords of the three worlds, gave me a boon of any wish I liked. I do not choose that wish; my mind is set on him who brings all beings into being.
