22Rama said to him: You dung of a man-eater, because like a dog you carried our beloved off while we were not by, you shameless and disgusting thing, today I give the doer the fruit of it, as time gives it, and my force is not to be crossed. 23Throwing this at him, he loosed the arrow he had set to the bow, and it split that heart like a thunderbolt. Vomiting blood from his ten mouths he fell from the sky-car while the people cried out in horror, as a man whose good deeds are spent falls, empty. 24Then out of Lanka came the women of the night-walkers in their thousands, Mandodari among them, weeping aloud, and they ran to the place.
25Each of them took her own dead in her arms, torn as they were by Laksmana's arrows, and they wept out loud in their misery, beating their own bodies with their own hands. 26Alas, we are destroyed, lord. Ravana, you who made the world cry out. Whom is Lanka to go to for shelter now, left without you and torn open by the enemy? 27You did not know, greatly favoured one, being under the power of desire, what the fiery force of Sita could do; and it has brought you to this. 28You have made Lanka a widow, and us with her, joy of your line. Your body is made food for vultures, and your self is made a reason for hell.
