Vibhisana, with the leave of the lord of Kosala, did for his own people what is laid down for the dead, by the rite of offering to the fathers. Then the Bhagavan saw her in the grove of asoka trees, wasted thin by the sickness of being parted from him, seated at the foot of a simsapa tree. Rama, seeing his dearest wife in that wretched state, was moved with pity; and her face opened like a lotus with the gladness of seeing him. The Bhagavan gave Vibhisana lordship over the raksasa hosts; then, having set her aboard, he mounted the sky-car with his two brothers and with Hanuman. He gave him Lanka too, and a life lasting to the end of the age. His vow now carried through, he went to the city, and along the road the guardians of the worlds scattered flowers over him.
