48Those mothers of his took their sons into their laps as bodies take back a breath that has risen again, and wet them with floods of tears, and let their grief go. 49The teacher, with the elders of the family, freed him of his matted hair as the rule requires, and anointed him just as Indra is anointed, with the water of the four seas and the rest. 50So, with his head bathed, well dressed and wearing a garland, he shone among his brothers, who were finely dressed and adorned, and with his wife beside him. 51His brother bowed to him and won him over, and he took the throne. Rama guarded the people like a father, and they held to their own duty and had the merits of their class and stage, and they thought of him as their father.
