Once, wanting to know how it stood with the people, Rama went about hidden in the night and unnoticed, and he heard a man speaking to his wife. I do not keep you, you bad woman, unchaste, who went into another man's house. A man in thrall to women might keep a Sita; Rama might. I am not Rama, and I will not have you again. So, afraid of the people, who have many mouths and are hard to satisfy and know nothing, her husband gave her up, and she came to the hermitage of the son of Praceta. She was carrying, and when the time came she bore twin sons, known as Kusa and Lava; and the sage performed the rites for them.
