Taught this by his father, Rama said So be it, joy of the Kurus, and for a year he went from ford to ford; and then he came back to the hermitage. Once Renuka went to the Ganga and saw the king of the gandharvas there, wearing a garland of lotuses, at his play among the apsarases. She had gone to the river for water; and watching him at his play, with a little longing for Citraratha in her, she did not remember the hour of the offering. Seeing that the time had gone by, and fearing the sage's curse, she came back, set the water jar down before him, and stood there with her hands joined. The sage understood that his wife had turned aside, and said in his anger: Kill her, my sons, the sinful woman. But when they had been told this they did not do it.
