16Having wept so, Rama himself laid his father's body in his brothers' keeping, took up the axe, and set his mind on the ending of the kshatriyas. 17Rama went to Mahismati, whose splendour had been struck away by the killing of a brahmin, and there, king, out of their heads he raised a great hill in the middle of the city. 18With their blood he made a terrible river, one that brings fear to those who are no friend to the brahmins; and the killing of his father was his ground against a kshatriya class that worked what is not auspicious. 19Three times seven times over the mighty one made the earth a place without kshatriyas, and at Samantapancaka he made nine lakes whose water was blood.
