He asked his son Puru, younger in years and better in his qualities: You should not turn me away, child, as your elder brothers have. Lord of men, what man in the world is able to pay back the father who made him, by whose kindness he finds what is highest? The best son does what is only thought of; the middling one does what is spoken; the worst does it without any trust in it; and one who does not do it is his father's excrement. So Puru gladly took his father's old age on himself; and with those years of his the king enjoyed the objects of desire as he pleased, king. Lord of the seven islands, guarding his people rightly, as a father does, he enjoyed the things of sense as far as he liked them, with his senses under no check.
