Sit down, lotus-eyed one, and take the welcome we can give. There is wild rice, and it may be eaten. Stay, if it pleases you to stay. This is fitting, fair-browed one, in a woman born in Kusika's line; for the daughters of kings choose for themselves a husband of their own kind. She said Yes; and the king, who knew what was right for a place and a time, married Sakuntala as dharma allows, by the gandharva rite. The royal sage, whose seed does not fail, set his seed in the queen; and the next day he went back to his own city. In time she bore a son. Kanva did in the forest the rites that were proper for the boy. And that child would tie up the lord of beasts by main force, and play with him.
