In his conquest of the quarters he killed the Kiratas, the Hunas, the Yavanas, the Paundras, the Kankas, the Khasas and the Sakas, and the kings who were no friend to the brahmins, and every foreign people there was. In an earlier time the demons had conquered the gods and taken to their dwellings in the deep, and the women of the gods had been carried down there. He brought them back, and the living creatures with them. Heaven and earth yielded his people everything they wanted. For three times nine thousand years he kept the wheel turning in every quarter. That emperor, that overlord, called it a lie and stopped: the lordship that goes by the name of guarding the worlds, and fortune, and the wheel that never faltered, and the breath of his own life.
