38Hero, for those who are born, death is born along with the body. Today, or at the end of a hundred years, death is certain for living things. 39When the body goes to its five elements, the one who wears it, following after his works and with no will of his own, reaches another body and lets the old one go. 40As a man walking stands with one foot and goes on with the other, and as a leech does on a blade of grass, so is the one who wears a body when he has entered the course of his works. 41As in a dream a man sees a body like this one, his awareness taken up with what he wishes for, and thinking with his mind on what he has seen and heard, he enters into some such thing, having forgotten.
42Wherever the mind runs, driven by fate, the mind that is made of changes, it settles among the five strands that maya has fashioned; and the one who wears a body, going after them, is born along with it. 43As that light in water and in earthen things is made to seem to follow the rush of the wind, so this Person, going after the strands his own maya has fashioned out of longing for them, is bewildered. 44So let a man do harm to no one, being of that sort himself and wanting his own safety; for the one who does harm, fear comes from elsewhere. 45This is your younger sister, a girl, helpless, like a daughter of your own. You should not kill her, this good woman, you who are tender to the wretched.
