46Though he was taught in this way, with soothing words and with words that divided, the hard man did not turn back, Kaurava: he was a follower of the eaters of men. 47Knowing that stubbornness of his and thinking it over, Anakadundubhi came upon this way, there and then, of holding off the time that had come. 48Death is to be put off by a man of understanding, as far as the strength of his understanding rises. If it will not turn back, then no fault lies with the one who wears the body. 49By giving my sons to death, I will free this poor woman. And if sons are born to me at all, or if death itself does not die first, 50might it not even be the other way about? The way of the Ordainer is hard to get past. What has come may turn back, and what has turned back may fall on us again.
51As with fire there is no cause for its joining with wood or its parting from it other than the unseen, so for a creature too the cause of joining with a body and parting from it is hard to make out.
