31Having crossed of themselves that fearful sea of becoming, so hard to cross, shining one, those whose friendship is not small have left the boat of your lotus feet here and gone on. You are the grace given to the good. 32Others, lotus-eyed, who take themselves for freed, their understanding unclean because they have set no love on you, climb with great labour to the highest place and fall from it again, having thought nothing of your feet. 33Not so yours, Madhava. They never fall from the way, their friendship bound fast to you. Guarded by you, they walk without fear on the heads of the leaders of the hosts that stand in the way, master.
34For the keeping of things you take up clarity unmixed, a body that is a gift of good to those who wear bodies; and it is by that body that people set about honouring you with the Veda, with rites, with yoga, with austerity and with deep concentration. 35Ordainer, if this clarity were not your own, the knowing that wipes away the split that ignorance makes could not be. You are inferred from the showings of the strands, and from the one to whom a strand shows itself, and by what.
