In a little while, in the cow settlement, Rama and Kesava crawled about on their knees and their hands and played. The two of them, dragging their feet along, creeping in the mud of the camp with a lovely jingling as they went, followed other people, delighted in their minds by that sound, and then came back close to their mothers as though they were bewildered and afraid. Their mothers, their milk running for love, took up their own sons, pretty with the mud smeared over them, in their two arms; and giving them the breast, looking at their faces as they drank, with the innocent smiles and the few teeth in them, they came to great gladness.

When the women of the camp saw those two, whose child's play was worth looking at, dragged this way and that inside the camp by calves whose tails they had caught, they left their houses and stood watching, and laughed for delight. The two mothers could not keep their own sons, very quick and taken up with play, away from horned things and fire and toothed things and knives and water and birds and thorns; nor could they get their housework done. There they came into a real unsettling of the mind. In a little while, royal sage, Rama and Krsna were walking easily about the cow settlement on their feet, without scraping their knees.
